This week’s Wardrobe Wednesday features a unisex apparel brand based out of Philadelphia by the name of Milano Di Rouge. I got a chance to chitchat with the founder Milan, about fall fashion trends, the utilization of social media in today’s generation, and the brand in general. Created in 2012, this brand has been seen on different celebrities from Lou Williams, Rico Love, LeSean McCoy, and many more. CC: Hi Milan! Tell me a little bit about "Milano Di Rouge", the meaning behind the brand, and how it originated?
Milan: “Milano Di Rouge (MDR) is a Philadelphia based, Street-wear apparel brand. MDR’s focus is to provide luxury fashion at affordable rates. Our brands mission is ‘Making Dreams Reality’, because we strongly believe it’s never too late too follow your dreams. We want our brand to empower & encourage the dreamers to keep achieving.”
CC: Street wear becoming a trendy market; what sets "Milano Di Rouge" apart from the others?
Milan: “The separation comes from my detailed attention to the “needs” of my customer base. We live in a fashion society of simplicity, so I’ve applied that to my designs while adding a couture flare. I pride MDR on being versatile; it can be dressed up or down, worn at any occasion. Milano offers a contemporary fashion approach, merging street-wear and luxury.”
CC: What is your favorite trend this fall season and why?
Milan: “Jumpsuits are trending heavy this season, they’re so sexy. You can find a jumpsuit in every designer’s fall line right now. The great thing about a jumpsuit is that it’s a multipurpose piece; you can dress it up with your favorite strappy sandal, or dress it down with a cool sneaker such as the Rihanna x Puma creepers.”
CC” What is the top 5 must have items this fall season for ladies?
Milan: The top 5 fall must-haves are all of course by MDR, they are:

CC: Tell me about your journey towards becoming a successful entrepreneur in the fashion industry? What obstacles have you faced? What was your breakthrough moment?
Milan: “My Journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur has been quite an experience. I never knew exactly what I wanted to do career-wise, but I always knew the type of woman I wanted to be, professionally. I tried a series of career paths including - Cosmetology, Photography, Blogging, Videography & Wardrobe Styling. Ultimately all of those things directed me to my passion of fashion design, and in my passion I found my purpose, Milano Di Rouge.
The two biggest obstacles I’ve faced are being a woman in a male-dominated industry and competition amongst other businesswomen. Whether it’s the photographer, graphic designer, web developer, potential investor, etc. almost everyone I’ve encountered or worked with has been a male. I found working with males you have to be firm and guarded to ensure they take you serious, know it’s strictly business, and that it’s always being conducted in a professional manner. A lot of females compromise who they are and their values to get in a better position career-wise. I can’t be that girl. I’d rather work hard to get where I am going than to lose my self-respect.
As far as competition amongst females, I hate it. I think two businesswomen should be everything but competitors. As businesswomen we can learn a lot from each other. We do not need hate each other just because we both have dreams of becoming successful. I feel it’s important for all female entrepreneurs to unify, because we are the minority. We can motivate each other, because the average person doesn’t understand the struggle we go through as a business woman.”
CC: Where do you see Milano Di Rouge evolving within the next 5 years?
Milan: “In the next 5 years I see MDR being a well-respected brand in several retail stores across America.”
CC: How important is social media and networking within our generation and society today?
Milan: “Social Media & networking are very important. Social media is a free form of advertising. Social media is the new age method of networking; it allows you to reach different markets and interact with a variety of people. I’ve seen people make millions just from using social media as a marketing tool. Networking is extremely important because ‘your network is your Net worth’. Nowadays it’s not about what you know or what you’re selling, it’s who you know and who is wearing it.”
CC: Lastly, The Prevailing Effect is someone who has prevailed and overcame many obstacles in life to get where they are today. Do you consider yourself a “Prevailing Effect”?
Milan: “I honestly can’t answer this question yet. I’ve definitely overcome many obstacles on my journey both in business and personally. However I’m far off from where I want to be in life and I know the hurdles are going to get bigger and the roads will get tougher where I’m headed. I’m still very much a work in progress.”
